By now, you’ve probably seen the red band trailer for Spike Lee’s remake of the dark, violent and supremely twisted 2003 Chan-wook Park film Oldboy (jf not, you’ll find it here.) Some new images have emerged from the movie, featuring Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen.
Brolin inherits the lead role of an ad executive who is mysteriously imprisoned for 20 years. During his captivity, he can’t tell what’s real and or not since his captor controls all the information he sees, and it naturally takes a psychological toll.
Then, just as mysteriously, he’s released, desperate to find out what has happened and driven to violent means to learn the truth, especially when he’s told things about his daughter. Can he work out what happened and why? And, perhaps more importantly, will he like the answers he gets?
Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Imperioli, Hannah Simone and Lance Reddick. Oldboy is out on December 6.
