Disney Pixar is doing a bang-up job getting awareness of this year’s big release, Monsters University, out there. We’ve had teaser posters and the first trailer (which you can enjoy again at the bottom of the page) and now a TV spot.
The promo takes the form of a typical university recruitment spot you can expect to see here, but even more across the pond as the values of the college campus are extolled by happy students.
There’s no mention of Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sulley (John Goodman), but let’s be honest – you don’t necessarily need to cram them in to raise awareness. Shown during California’s New Year Rose Bowl Parade (which takes place in Pasadena, just north of LA), it’s a great, funny little advert in its own right.
As for the movie, it will explore the early college days of our one-eyed and furry heroes, at a time when they were definitely not the best friends we know. Mike is a chatterbox who longs to prove himself, while Sulley is an established scare expert from a long family line of effective beasts. But how did they go from rivals to buddies?
Dan Scanlon directed this one, and you can expect to hear the voices of Steve Buscemi, Dave Foley and Pixar veteran story artist/director Peter Sohn.
Monsters University will be out on July 12. And if you’re itching to see Monsters, Inc again, the 3D re-release hits UK cinemas on January 18.
Pixar, meanwhile, sent out a card to some US outlets which features some nice concept art for its forthcoming releases, including** The Good Dinosaur **(2014), the still-untitled Mind movie (out 2015) and Lee Unkrich’s Dia de los Muertos project, which will arrive in 2016.
