Usually, it’s superhero or big sci-fi movies – your Iron Man, your Man Of Steel, your Star Trek – that generate the minimalist or, in this case, OTT poster Mondo specialises in. But it appears that the new Melissa McCarthy / Sandra Bullock cop comedy The Heat was deemed worthy to stand alongside them. Take a gander at the ‘80s-style poster for the movie, as crafted by Tom “The Dude Designs” Hodge.
The Heat finds Bullock and McCarthy as mismatched law enforcers (one’s a straight-laced FBI agent with few interpersonal skills; the other a foul-mouthed Boston street cop with street smarts to match) joining forces to bring down a ruthless drug lord.
"The Heat poster was an exciting design to take on, says The Dude in a statement. “Galvanized by the awesome power of VHS cover art I set to work creating the ultimate 80s action buddy cop visual, drawing out the humour in an explosion of over the top action." At the very least, Melissa McCarthy looks more like herself on this one…
With Demian Bichir, Marlon Wayans, Michael Rapaport, Jane Curtin, Dan Bakkedahl, Taran Killam and Tom Wilson also in the cast,** The Heat **hits UK streets on July 31.
