While the first trailer Robert Rodriguez put online for Mexpolitation thriller **Machete was really a crafty joke at the expense of the boiling immigration issue in the American state of Arizona, the first official promo for the movie has now arrived, and you can view it below.
Birthed from the fake trailer Rodriguez created for Grindhouse, Machete follows the titular former Mexican federal agent (Danny Trejo), who is forced on to the streets as a mercenary after an encounter with sleazy drug lord Torrez (Steven Seagal).
Taking any job he can find, Machete agrees to eliminate a corrupt senator, McLaughlin (Robert De Niro), but his luck is still not with him – it’s a set-up, and the double-crossed ex-federale is forced to flee once more, looking to get revenge with some help from the sexy Luz (Michelle Rodriguez), gun-toting socialite April (Lindsey Lohan) and Padre (Cheech Marin), his priestly brother who nonetheless has a penchant for weaponry. Oh, and there’s the small matter of the immigration agent Sartana (Jessica Alba) on his trail…
From the looks of this trailer, Rodriguez has plumped for pure explosive entertainment, which is no bad thing given the subject matter and the cast. Can the idea of Trejo as a blade-wielding warrior maintain an entire film? We’ll find out on October 29. Meanwhile, take a gander at the footage.
