We've been shown a teaser previously, but now heralding its US release in April, here's the first full trailer for Rob Zombie's latest horror opus **The Lords Of Salem. Following his Halloweens, Zombie has cut the remake strings for this, his first home-grown film project since The Devil's Rejects. Paranormal Activity bods Oren Peli and Jason Blum are on the producer list.
What have we got? In order of onslaught: goats, fire, witches, sinister hotel rooms, Sheri Moon Zombie (with dreads), rats, prophecies, masks, more goats, witches again, more fire, some blood, and a stripey jumper. The synopsis available so far gives us the tale of a New England DJ (Mrs Zombie) having flashbacks to Salem's violent witch-hunting past.
As chance would have it, Empire spoke to Mr Zombie just yesterday. "Twenty innocent people were executed during the Salem Witch Trials," he explains. "But, the premise of the film is that there were another six women executed who actually were witches, that nobody knows about. It's about that secret plot getting uncovered."
"I'm excited about the trailer," he continues. "I usually hate them. Seeing the trailer is always scary, because sometimes they're selling a movie that's actually nothing like the one you've made. But this is actually very indicative of Lords Of Salem. I watched it and thought it looked cool, like a movie people might actually go and see. And it is our movie. They didn't do anything cheesy just to sell it, so I'm happy with that."
April is Zombie month, since it also sees the release of his new album Venemous Rat Regeneration Vendor ("Yeah, that old title again," he laughs). We don't seem to have a date in the UK yet, but the US gets Lords Of Salem on April 26. Zombie will shortly be heading to Philadelphia to scout locations for his next film, the hockey drama **Broad Street Bullies.
