Thanks to the annoying presence of the paparazzi on his location shoots, Joker director Todd Phillips has decided to take matters into his own hands. He's now shared the first camera test of star Joaquin Phoenix in full Joker make-up (see one of the stills above) and has followed that up with an image of co-star Zazie Beetz (find that lower down the page).
Both new images arrive on the heels of Phillips using his Instagram account to offer up the initial image of Phoenix in character as Arthur, the beaten-down wannabe performer who will eventually become the Clown Prince of Crime in his gritty, street-level origin story.
Sharing more DNA with the likes of The King Of Comedy than with, say, Batman, the cautionary tale is set in the 1980s, and also features Beetz, Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy and Marc Maron. And while that's one look for Phoenix's take on the character, it might not be his final appearance.
Joker will be out on 4 October next year.
