It's not really a trailer, more of a mash-up showreel with an amusingly anachronistic soundtrack, but whatever, Coming Soon (among others) have got hold of a new clip of Nicholas Winding Refn's Viking epic Valhalla Rising. Those of a squeamish disposition should perhaps not click here.
Starring Mads Mikkelsen, Valhalla Rising (nothing to do with the Clive Cussler Dirk Pitt novel) is about a one-eyed, supernaturally strong berserker held captive by a chieftan for many years, and the mysteriously ethereal events that befall him after his seafaring escape.
Is the single eye an Odin reference? We couldn't possibly speculate. But there's apparently a good bit of Norse mythology and not a little Vinland Saga involved. And we're sure, no reminders whatsoever of Pathfinder.
What's certain is that Mel Gibson's Viking project will have its work cut out to top Bronson director Refn's ferocious display of head-caving, disembowelling and decapitating here. The gauntlet is thrown. The UK release date is March 26th.
