The movie itself doesn't hit until the middle of next year, but we're finally starting to learn a little more about Ocean's franchise addition Ocean's 8, with a new picture from the film appearing on Entertainment Weekly's site.
Star Sandra Bullock also spilled some more details about the movie's story, including the fact that it's not a reboot of Ocean's 11 or a direct sequel, but more sort of a shared universe film with Bullock playing a member of Danny Ocean's (George Clooney) family. "I am Danny Ocean’s sister," she tells EW "I’ve been incarcerated for about five years and you find out why during the course of the film. I mean, that’s sort of a tiny subplot. But that’s, you know, but I’m definitely his sister and we definitely come from the same family and we’re both very good at what we do in our own special way. So you can only imagine that once I get out, that’s when the heist ensues."
The heist in question is stealing a priceless necklace from a famous woman at New York's Met Gala. To pull that off (literally, we assume), Debbie Ocean recruits a team that includes Lou (Cate Blanchett), Nine Ball (Rihanna), Amita (Mindy Kaling), Constance (Awkwafina), Rose (Helena Bonham Carter), Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway), and Tammy (Sarah Paulson).
With Matt Damon popping up in a cameo – one assumes as Linus Caldwell from the Clooney films – the director here is Gary Ross. Ocean's 8 is due out on 22 June. For more from Bullock, hit up EW's site.
