With the film now ploughing through the post-production process ready for an October release, sci-fi novel adaptation Ender’s Game creeps ever closer. Today a new image from the film, focusing on Asa Butterfield’s Ender Wiggin and Hailee Steinfeld’s Petra Arkanian has emerged online via fan site Enderwiggen.net. Take a look above.

Ender’s Game, drawn from Orson Scott Card’s novel, takes place in the near future, where Earth is under threat from a hostile, insectoid alien race called the Formics. After two devastating attacks, the world’s forces have rallied to defend against the next, setting up Battle Schools to pick and train the most gifted children in the art of war.

One of those, a shy but strategically talented lad named Ender, is plucked from school and quickly earns the respect of his peers and senior officers, including Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and wartime legend Major Rackham (Ben Kingsley). Of course, it’s not as simple as that – nothing ever is in wartime – and soon Ender must make sacrifices as he enters an epic battle that will determine the future of the human race.

The pic finds the kids in the mess hall between lessons, where we learn that we should all buy stock in companies that make plastic lunch trays.

Also online are a set of logos for the various Battle School army divisions (think Hogwarts houses, but obviously created years before JK Rowing dreamt up Harry and co and involving a good bit more direct conflict), which were handed to four big Ender’s game fan sites, Enderwiggen.net, Ender News, Ender’s Anisble and Ender’s Game Fansite.

Written and directed by Gavin Hood,** Ender’s Game** lands on October 25.
