So far, George Clooney has made two films as a director and both have been fantastic. So forgive us if our expectations of his next effort, Leatherheads, are pretty lofty.

We're sure that one reason Clooney and Universal shifted the release of Leatherheads from the 2007 Oscar season to a less pressured spring release is to reduce expectations on the movie as awards fodder and make people accept it as the knockabout comedy it is. The new poster that Coming Soon has debuted backs that up. Click the image below for a larger look.

Leatherheads is set against the backdrop of the birth of college football in America, with Clooney as Dodge Connolly, a football hero who enters into a fast-talking love-hate relationship with a reporter (Renee Zellweger) who's come to town to investigate the too-good-to-be-true new player Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski).

The footage we've seen makes this look like a modern day His Girl Friday. And that's a good thing.
