If you watched the brief teaser for the new, Jodie Whittaker-starring series of Doctor Who that aired during the World Cup Final, you might have been left wanting to see actual material from the show. The show had its panel at San Diego's Comic-Con on Thursday, and now the new, expanded trailer has arrived.

It's still light on dialogue, preferring to showcase Whittaker's Doctor and her three main companions (Tosin Cole's Ryan), Mandip Gill's Yasmin and Bradley Walsh's Graham) exploring or running around some new places. It's all new to this Time Lady, as she explains, reaching out to ask if the other three (and by extension, the audience) will be her new best friends.

Talking at the panel, incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall explained the approach for his version of the series. "I think there's a lot of new things this year. There's new worlds, there's new characters, there's lots of new guest characters. New dialogue, new camera angles," he said. "It's really so that we can get it to you guys and everyone else in the world at the same time all polished. I really love television when it's a communal experience … I want you guys to all be talking about it at the same time, and we have things you're not going to want to be spoiled for."

As for Whittaker, asked about how she's playing the part, she responded quickly. "I've never approached a role thinking, 'How would a woman do this?' I've just approached it from my perspective. The wonderful thing about the Doctor is I'm playing an alien, so all those details are irrelevant," she said. That said, it does affect how other people interact with her. "Sometimes within episodes other people's response is different because they're speaking to a woman, and that's interesting. And that's why this role will continue to be layered and fascinating to play."

Doctor Who returns in the autumn for series 11, which will consist of a feature-length opener followed by nine 50-minute episodes.
