New John Carter Trailer Lands

We’re just over a week away now from the launch of John Carter, and the real test for director Andrew Stanton and his crew: can the movie succeed at the box office? Well, with the buzz-o-meter swinging healthily for the “positive” side of the scale, Disney’s marketing bots are mounting one of the last big pushes, releasing a new trailer over at Apple.

If you’ve seen any of the previous trailers or clips, you’ll likely known what you’re in for here: Taylor Kitsch’s hero jumping a lot, shouting a lot and swinging weapons a lot, while Lynn Collins looks hot in various outfits and Mark Strong bringing his best baldy scowl to the table.

As usual with the Disney team’s promos, there’s a tiny nod to story, with Carter in this one being warned that if he doesn’t stop the battle on Barsoom, “Earth will be next.” But mostly we get to watch as he fights bad guys and takes a rock to a White Ape in an arena, which we bet means that the American Humane Association will not be giving this one their stamp of approval. White Apes are people too! Just really big. And hairy. And toothy.

With Willem Dafoe (he’s the avocado-hued, four-armed Tars Tarkas), Samantha Morton, Thomas Haden Church, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, Bryan Cranston and James Purefoy also in the mix, John Carter will leap into cinemas on March 9.
