New Jack Ryan Shooting Soon?

It's a while since the news that Chris Pine would be taking over the Jack Ryan franchise. Last we heard, the film, was still just in development with no projected start date, but Collider has a small update from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, that Jack Ryan's return in **Moscow will go before the cameras sooner rather than later.

"We're looking forward to, maybe, with a little luck, starting late winter or early next spring," says di Bonaventura, which would put Pine in Ryan's shirt and tie before he gets back into Captain Kirk's jumpsuit for Star Trek 2.

The screenplay, last we heard, had been started by Hossein Amini (The Four Feathers) and then taken over by newbie Adam Cozad. Not based on any of Clancy's remaining unfilmed Ryan novels (and there are a few), Moscow finds Ryan just out of the Marines, before he joins the CIA, working as a financial consultant for a Russian billionaire. He gets framed in a terrorist plot, and has to go on the run to clear his name and rescue his kidnapped wife. Word is that it's a re-tooled version of Amini's earlier unproduced Dubai. "We have a very good script and I'm very happy with where we are today," di Bonaventura promises.

Paramount is still the home of the franchise, and if di Bonaventura's hopes come true, expect announcements on co-stars and a director before too long.
