UPDATE: Further to the full trailer below, the official Hobbit website, TheHobbit.com, has released several alternate endings (four in the video below, five on the website itself) and you can check out them out below.
Then, of course, you can rewatch the main trailer after that - but you were going to do that anyway, right?
Hold onto your wizard's hats, it's Tolkien time. The first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has halloowed its way onto the internet and it looks rather wizard.

The first part of Peter Jackson's trilogy sets the scene for the darkening mood and ever-greater perils that will beset the dwarves' journey to the Lonely Mountain over the final two instalments. Here, though, there's plenty of dwarfish joshing and merriment as Bilbo Baggins is introduced to Ori, Oin, Bombur and co. - at least until they're all temporarily squashed by an errant cave troll.
Calming things down is Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), a sober presence in the group with his eyes firmly on the prize of the golden treasure trove and a cranky dragon, or more generally the reclamation of the dwarves' homeland. And we also get a glimpse of the way in which Jackson has widened out the story, with more for Elrond and Galadriel to do than there ever was in the book (the latter wasn't even mentioned).
**The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey **will be setting off from a cinema near us on December 14. The Desolation Of Smaug follows on December 13, 2013, and **There And Back Again **completes the story in July 2014.
