The buzz-o-meter has been increasingly turning on Green Hornet, with the dial swinging from “negative” to “positive.” And now a new featurette has arrived online, in which co-writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, along with actress Cameron Diaz, explain how their movie will be different from your average costumed crusader caper. You can take a gander below.
Seems the big difference is an exploration of the complicated relationship between heroes and their sidekicks and, more importantly, how they see each other. Rogen’s Britt Reid is not like your regular superhero – he doesn’t have powers, and he’s frankly more like Batman – if Bruce Wayne really did care more about partying than throaty-voiced heroics. And uniquely, he has a sidekick in Jay Chou’s Kato who can kick his arse six ways from Sunday in addition to being a technical whizz.
Oh, and the whole thing is being played more for laughs than, say, The Dark Knight. Take a look at the featurette, and then let us know if it sways you any further into “must see” territory, or if you’re still on the fence about this one.
The Green Hornet is out on January 14.
