In a pleasingly cyberpunk style, Paramount's publicity machine has so far eschewed the traditional trailer route for its live action Ghost In The Shell and is continuing instead with a series of "glitches". The latest has just popped up online, and, despite its brevity, should be instantly recognisable to anyone familiar with Mamoru Oshii's 1995 anime. It also reveals how director Rupert Sanders and his costume department have got round the issue of the Major's frequent nudity: Scarlett Johansson's flesh-toned bodysuit preserving her modesty while still conveying the original idea...
Based on the manga originated by Masamune Shirow, Johansson’s character is a special ops cyborg, head of an elite task force known as Section 9. The team, working for Hanka Robotics, is in charge of stopping dangerous criminals and extremists, and their prime target is The Laughing Man, a terrorist dedicated to wiping out all of Hanka’s cyber technology.
Pilou Asbæk is Batou, the second best fighter in the section and her trusted lieutenant, with Juliette Binoche, Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt and Kaori Momoi also appearing. The members of the multi-cultural Section 9 are played by Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara and Tuwanda Manyimo.
The movie is out on March 31 next year. This article explains everything you need to know about Ghost In The Shell's history, and below are all the other "glitches" so far. We'll have more on Ghost In The Shell for you soon...
