New Friday The 13th Trailer Online

The new trailer for Marcus Nispel’s remake of Friday The 13th has gone online over at Yahoo – and we have to say that we like what we see.

The first half of the trailer, the latest horror remake to come from Platinum Dunes, sketches out the plot – Jared Padalecki’s Clay comes to Camp Crystal Lake in search of his sister, only to find a group of revellers in for the fright of their doomed young lives when they stumble upon Jason Voorhees. So far, so good, with a couple of nice moments (we like the first sight of Jason, from a girl stranded in the lake itself).

The second half, though, is an overt nod to the trailer for Sean S. Cunningham’s 1980 original, which detailed each death in loving detail. And, yes, in case you were wondering, there are thirteen of them. Of course, you might be concerned that this gives away a lot of the jump scares, but the editing becomes so fast that you’re probably going to miss some of the finer details of Jason’s new kills.

In that case, it’s best only to watch this once, but if you can, look out for some nice incidental details: at one point, Jason is seen with a bag over his head, a la Friday The 13th Part 2, and the clearest indication yet that he doesn’t start off wearing his famous hockey mask. Still no visual sign of his mother, Pamela Voorhees, but her voiceover dominates the trailer.

The original Friday The 13th, while schlocky enough, is also pretty patchy, and so there’s ample room for improvement with the remake. Certainly, this thing looks beautifully shot and it looks pretty brutal and gory. Let’s hope it does the business when it opens on – you guessed it – Friday The 13th in February.
