There have already been several trailers for Moneyball director Bennett Miller’s latest based-on-reality drama, Foxcatcher. But this latest effort offers a much deeper dive into the film’s themes of loyalty, obsession and athleticism. Take a look over at Yahoo.
Foxcatcher, written by E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman, tells the gripping, real-life story of Olympic champion wrestling brothers Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo). They’re invited to launch a wrestling academy funded by the eccentric John du Pont (Steve Carell), heir to the du Pont Chemical fortune.
Though it seems like a great opportunity, with du Pont acting as coach, mentor and father figure to Mark, things soon begin to curdle. Dave worries about du Pont’s influence over his brother and when the wealthy man’s temper really begins to show itself, the spectre of tragedy rises. There is already awards talk about this one, particularly in terms of Carell and Tatum’s performances.
With Vanessa Redgrave, Sienna Miller and Anthony Michael Hall among the cast, Foxcatcher arrives in the US on November 14 and will make it to the UK on January 9 next year.
