Given that today is Thanksgiving we expected this new "holiday" trailer for The Collection to be themed around that. Nope. What we get instead is an amusingly Christmassy vibe for The Collector's sequel, where Emma Fitzpatrick is confronted with a large box to open, as we're regaled with The Carol Of The Bells...
After that it's gruesome business as usual, and a quick barrage of images - Mask! Fire! Spiders! Exhibits! - from the full trailer released a few weeks ago.
There's more detail in an interview that Fitzpatrick (In Time, The Social Network) just gave Playboy, however. Obviously, Empire reads that publication for the articles. For research. For you guys.
"This film picks up right after The Collector," Fitzpatrick explains. "It’s very much got a thriller/action sort of aspect to the horror film, which I liked, because I’m not a big fan of gore-porn kind of stuff. It takes the storyline of Arkin from the first film and it adds my character’s storyline and they have the parallel stories going on until they converge in the middle. I got to be the audience’s perspective of what it’s like to come face to face with The Collector. The villain doesn’t have any superpowers, which I think is terrifying, because it could be the guy next door with a mask on."
As previously, The Collection stars Josh Stewart as Arkin, with Marcus Dunstan directing and co-writing with his usual collaborator Patrick Melton (Feasts 1 and 2, Saws 4-7). It's released in the States on November 30, but there's no indication so far of when we'll get it in the UK.
