What do you do if a serial slasher attacks people in a nearby shopping mall? If you're in the UK, you compose a strongly-worded letter to the local paper about tearaway youth and vaping. But if you're a teenager in an American horror movie, you naturally dig into the case and investigate its potential supernatural underpinnings. And then you put yourself at mortal risk... See the new trailer for Fear Street Part 1: 1994.
This adaptation of RL Stine’s novels marks a different kind of trilogy – the streaming service has shot all three Fear Street movies already, and it’s releasing them weekly through July in a major horror event. Unlike the family friendly Goosebumps movies, these will be R-rated, and they’re each set in the city of Shadyside at different points in time.
The first, 1994, finds teens discovering that the city has a lurid past of terror and that the new case might just be (read: is) connected. Expect it to creep on to Netflix this Friday.
With Leigh Janiak co-writing and directing all three episodes, Part 2: 1978 and Part 3: 1666 will follow on 9 July and 16 July respectively.
