Marvel's latest superhero, that Sorcerer Supreme, that master of the mystical arts, that guy who probably trims his goatee with an ancient spell, Doctor Strange is on the cover of the current Empire. And he – in the shape of star Benedict Cumberbatch – and his fellow characters are also showing up in new posters, which you can find magically appearing lower down the page.

The story, as has been well covered by now, finds Strange as a brilliant but distant and arrogant surgeon. When his hands are mangled in a car wreck, he uses his wealth to find a cure, but discovers something much more important: a mission in life.

Ending up at the isolated temple of the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), he encounters abilities he never suspected existed and finds new associates, including keeper of documents Wong (Benedict Wong) and powerful warrior Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor). Soon, Strange is exploring parallel realities and honing skills few ever even realise. His one link back to his past life is fellow medical type Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) and he faces a new challenge, that of powerful, driven zealot Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen).

Doctor Strange finally arrives here on 25 October and you can find more in the new Empire, available at newsagents across the UK and other realities. Or you can subscribe to the magazine here, which means access to exclusive covers{ =nofollow}.
