With the second Narnia film, Prince Caspian, not even due out for another 13 months, Disney and Walden Media are already gearing up for a third instalment, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and according to Ain't It Cool News they've lined up Michael Apted to direct it.
Dawn Treader takes place several years after the events in Prince Caspian, as a now King Caspian (sorry, spoiler) undertakes a voyage into the West in search of the seven lost Lords of Narnia. He's joined by the two younger Pevensie children, Lucy and Edmond, and their horrible cousin Eustace, as well as the brave mouse Reepicheep.
If he does indeed take the job, it would be something of a change of pace for Apted, whose last film was slavery drama Amazing Grace, and who previously directed Thunderheart and Gorillas in the Mist. Still, at least his Bond experience on The World Is Not Enough gives him some fantasy background.
Aint It Cool also report that The Silver Chair is likely to be the fourth film in the series, which means that, as expected, the filmmakers are planning to skip The Horse and His Boy, often accused of racism and Islamiphobia, and The Magician's Nephew, a perhaps too obviously religious Creation story. We'll keep you posted as we hear more about the story.
