We’ve seen a couple of teasers already, but now the full promotional trailer for Universal’s latest effort to secure a bite of the 3D CG ‘toon market – Despicable Me – has arrived online.
Until now, the footage has focused almost exclusively on the main character – Gru, a nefarious super villain voiced by Steve Carell. And while this latest promo still showcases our anti-hero, it opens up his world to include his plans (nicking the moon), the various other evildoers who keep challenging and the big problem that turns up on his doorstep in the form of three adorable orphaned moppets looking for a home.
This being a kids’ pic, he doesn’t treat them to a blast of a disintegrating ray – he begrudgingly gives them a home.
Despicable Me certainly features a quality comedy voice cast, with Will Arnett, Danny McBride, Jason Segel, Ken Jeong, Russell Brand, Jemaine Clement, Jack McBrayer and more all lending their tonsil talents.
And it’s clearly the year for evil geniuses dealing with crises in their lives (see also: DreamWorks Megamind). Despicable Me arrives first, but will it prove to be the better man(iacal villain)? See what you think...
