As Twitter and its associated social services emerge as a new tool in a director’s PR arsenal, various shot-callers are taking to the site to post images from movies as they’re still in production. We have Bryan Singer snapping away on**X-Men: Days Of Future Past **and Marc Webb going even further with a picture a day from The **Amazing Spider-Man 2. Now, with shooting in full swing, Matt Reeves is throwing his hat into the ring with the first proper shot of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes.

The image features Andy Serkis as brain-boosted chimp Caesar (on horseback, kitted out in his performance capture suit) confronting Jason Clarke’s human survivor and what looks like Keri Russell in the background in the Northern California woods.

Dawn’s plot finds a growing nation of genetically-evolved apes, led by Caesar, threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species. Our money’s on the monkeys - but then, we've seen the later films.

Once more of the visual effects are in place, we’d expect to see some footage. The film itself is out on May 22 next year.
