Coming later this year from indie distributors Mubi is Ben Sharrock's drama Limbo. Revolving around immigration and the UK asylum process, it tackles some serious issues. But as this new clip demonstrates, there are smiles too.

Written and directed by Sharrock – his first film since Pikadero in 2015 – Limbo stars Amir El-Masry as Omar, a young Syrian musician in a community of refugees waiting for the results of their asylum claims on a remote Scottish island. Sharrock worked as an NGO in refugee camps in southern Algeria, and lived in Damascus in 2009 shortly before the outbreak of the Syrian civil war. He's been planning Limbo ever since, with the personal stories of the network of friends he made during that period among the film's key inspirations.

Vikash Bhai, Ola Orebiyi, Kwabena Ansah, Sidse Babett Knudsen and Kais Nashif co-star, along with many non-actors: genuine refugees who have made their home in the Outer Hebrides where Limbo was filmed.

Already racking up nominations from the British Independent Film Awards and BAFTA, Limbo is currently scheduled for a cinema release in the UK and Ireland on 30 July.
