David Thewlis in Stonehearst Asylum

The casting news is coming thick and fast now for Fargo's Season Three. Latest to sign up for the TV Coen Brothers spin-off is David Thewlis. He'll be joined by Michael Stuhlbarg, Shea Whigham, Karan Soni, Fred Melamed and Thomas Mann.

Overseen by Noah Hawley, the anthology crime series has told separate yet linked stories for its first two seasons. It's unclear how, if at all, the new season will be connected, but we do know it'll be set closer to the present day. Ewan McGregor has a double role as brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy, whose lives have taken very different tracks. Emmit is the toast of his small corner of Minnesota, a handsome, self-made businessman seemingly living the American Dream to the full. Ray, on the other hand, peaked in High School and works as a parole officer full of simmering envy about his brother's good fortune.

Carrie Coon is Gloria Burgle, a calm, level-headed chief of the Eden Valley Police force confronted by a world where people connect more with their phones than with each other. Add to that Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Nikki Swango, described as a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge playing. Nikki is a woman with a plan, focused on always being at least one move ahead of her opponents.

Thewlis will play V.M. Vargas, a "true capitalist" who muscles in on Emmit's parking lot empire. Fargo's third season should arrive on our screens sometime in 2017.
