And so it came to pass that no film was safe from the insatiable appetite of the Remake Monster. The latest to fall screaming into its fiery maw is the ‘80s cult favourite comedy Adventures In Babysitting.
Originally known in this country as A Night on the Town, starring a young Elisabeth Shue and featuring the first time that Chris Columbus helmed precocious kids winning the day (something of a theme for him), the plot saw a babysitter and her charges heading off to help her friend out of trouble in the city.
While Disney’s re-imagined version will feature a similar plot, the babysitter’s role will now be played by TV sitcom star Raven-Symone, who has just signed a cushy pay or play deal with the studio.
"Raven is a smart, funny and talented star who has the class and composure to go all the way," Disney production chief Nina Jacobson told The Hollywood Reporter. "The Disney Channel has made Raven into a household name, and we feel very lucky to be working with her to build a feature career."
David Stem and David Weiss have penned the script, but there’s no director attached yet.
