There are some films that arrive so overloaded with talent that the poster might as well just be a moving image of Stephen Colbert with his grasping hand and the slogan, “Oscar Please!” plastered across the bottom. And while having a solid pedigree is never a guarantee of an award, the rather lovely new trailer for Mark Romanek’s **Never Let Me Go suggests that Fox Searchlight wouldn’t mind clearing some room in its offices for a trophy or two.

Let’s run down the list, shall we? Adapted from Kazuo Ishiguro’s acclaimed novel, Romanek’s film features Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, Andrew Garfield, Sally Hawkins and Charlotte Rampling in a tale of life, love, death and the ultimate question of what makes us human.

Our three leads, Kathy (Mulligan), Ruth (Knightley) and Tommy (Garfield) grew up together in the mysterious Hailsham boarding school. Which, despite apparent funding and supplies beyond the dreams of most normal GSCE farms, is grooming its students for an undisclosed, but shocking future. At 18, they are released into the world, but will soon be called upon for “donations”. Life – and relationships – for our heroes could be tragically short. We’ll say no more, though the promo gives away a little extra information.

And if you don’t care for all the dramatic waffle, or even the sci-fi tinge, there’s also sex.

The trailer’s now up at Apple, though we wouldn’t be surprised if anyone had trouble getting it to work since the company’s servers were hammered yesterday by the pre-order launch of the new iPhone and WHY DID I HAVE TO SPEND SIX HOURS GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS AND STARING AT THE SPINNING WHEEL OF DOOM ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THE PRE-ORDERS HAVE SOLD OUT?* Er… We mean… enjoy!

*We apologise for our man in LA. He’s a little emotional at the moment.
