Another day, another movie making the leap from a cinematic release to a streaming home. This time, it's the turn of the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, which Legendary had been aiming as a theatrical movie, and is now headed for Netflix.
David Blue Garcia is in the director's chair for the film, which, like David Gordon Green's recent Halloween, takes format of directly following the original movie (Tobe Hooper's 1974 shocker) and eschewing the various sequels and prequels.
The script, by Chris Thomas Devlin, takes place years after the shocking events of the original, in a setting where violent villain Leatherface hasn’t been seen or heard from since. With Don't Breathe duo Fede Alvarez and Rodolfo Sayagues as producers, the cast includes Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, Jacob Latimore and Moe Dunford.
This move means that there's no official premiere date on the books just yet, though Netflix could aim for a slot around Halloween, assuming it has space on its crammed schedule.
