Though Arrested Development might not have won unanimous praise for its very different latest series on Netflix, it was certainly popular even if Netflix keeps the viewing figures a tightly controlled secret. Now it appears there’s enough enthusiasm within the company to start talking about another run.
At least, that’s what Brian Grazer told Bloomberg News this week, in a story picked up by Variety. As it stands right now, everyone is very clear that it’s early days and no formal negotiations have begun.
There are plenty of issues to figure out, not the least of which is that most of the cast are busy with either film or regular TV work. The tough juggling act led to this most recent series’ slightly disjointed feel, with characters popping in and out of each others’ stories.
Moreover, the way things ended seemed designed by creator Mitch Hurwitz to lead into the much-mooted film version of the story, though dangling plotlines could definitely continue into another season.
So for now it might just be Grazer and Ron Howard trying to drum up some interest and Netflix agreeing to consider it if Hurwitz and the team can actually make it work...
