Following quickly after Netflix's cancellation of Iron Fist, another of those Heroes For Hire is looking for work. Luke Cage will also not return for a third season.
In a statement released on Friday, Netflix and Marvel Television revealed the news. "Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season," it read. "Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series."
It's somewhat of a surprise given that discussions for a third season had already taken place, but Netflix has decided not to move forward. Part of the decision has been influenced by Disney and Marvel increasingly pulling away from Netflix in favour of the Mouse House's planned new streaming service. And while the Marvel/Netflix TV universe is still going strong with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and The Punisher sticking around, the reaction to later seasons of shows hasn't been as positive as previous runs.
