British writer / director Neil Marshall has had his next picture picked up by US production companies Rogue Pictures and Crystal Sky Pictures, and for his third outing behind the camera, he's pitched Doomsday, a 'futuristic action thriller with political overtones, in the vein of Mad Max'.
Marshall has been on the front foot in Hollywood since making The Descent, the five star horror film about a group of wide-girl cavers who run into a nasty unknown terror whilst underground. This came after his debut Dog Soldiers, another solid (if slightly sillier) horror effort about squaddies beset by werewolves during a weekend execise.
Despite the American money, Doomsday will once again be set in the UK – Scotland and the north of England, to be precise, concerning 'a disaster threatening the future of mankind, at a time when the world has become a very intense place to live'.
Production is set to commence next spring, on a budget of US$15 – 20 million.
