Never underestimate Hollywood’s ability to strip-mine any idea to reach every possible permutation. With fairytales still a hot property at the box office, everyone is looking for another wrinkle. So step forward prolific producer Neal Moritz, who is developing a new take on Sleeping Beauty at his Original Films company.
Though no writer or director is officially attached yet, Moritz and co. have cooked up the basic concept, which will drag the classic tale into the 21st century. The new story will see the male protagonist awaken a sleeping girl, only to find that she becomes completely smitten with her saviour and won’t leave him alone. Yes, the new sleeping beauty will be a wacky stalker and hilarity, they’re hoping, will ensue.
Despite Moritz’ deal with Sony, the new project is at such an early stage that no studio is actually attached yet, and likely won’t be until a script is at least halfway ready.
Moritz has approximately 4356 projects in development, including remakes of Starship Troopers and Sinbad and a** Doc Savage** project. He’s already brought us** 21 Jump Street** this year and produced the new Total Recall, which is out on August 29. Following that, he’ll release Jack The Giant Killer,** R.I.P.D.**, Dead Man Down and whatever the sixth Fast And Furious film ends up being called, if it’s not titled Fast Six…
