Certain names have cropped up in every James Gunn film to date. Michael Rooker is one; Rob Zombie is another. Nathan Fillion starred in Slither and Super and had a cameo role in Guardians Of The Galaxy as the blue dude on the Kyln who had an altercation with Chris Pratt. Confirmation that he'd also make an appearance in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 came through recently, and his character - a different one to last time - has now been revealed. Potential spoilers follow in the next paragraph. Stop here if you don't want to know more.
Eagle-eyed fans on set have spotted that Fillion is the face of an actor adorning a number of movie posters outside a theatre (one of them is a biopic of Tony Stark). And the name of the actor Fillion's playing? The cinema displaying all these posters is having a festival dedicated to the work of screen legend Simon Williams.
Now, that isn't the British guy from Upstairs Downstairs and Holby City. In the Marvel comics, Simon Williams is an actor and stuntman who moonlights as Wonder Man. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems, has a new Avenger...
This almost certainly amounts to nothing more than an Easter egg for the Marvel faithful. It's unlikely we'll see Fillion flying and being all invincible through the two Avengers: Infinity Wars movies, for example. But hey, it's fun to imagine.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, once again starring Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and an animated tree, is shooting as we speak, for a release on April 28, 2017. Fillion can currently be seen on TV, investigating his way through the eighth season of ABC's Castle.
