With its development troubles – including the loss of director Lynn Ramsay and star Michael Fassbender early in the process – now seemingly behind it, Natalie Portman-starring Western drama Jane Got A Gun faces its next challenge: getting bums on seats. To help convince us to take a chance on it, the first international trailer has surfaced. Take a look below.
The film’s story finds Portman as Jane Hammond, shocked to see her estranged outlaw hubby Bill “Ham” Hammond (Noah Emmerich) stagger home full of bullets after being double-crossed by his gang.
With the criminals (led by Ewan McGregor’s Colin McCann) on their way to finish the job, Jane decides to reach out to sharp-shootin’ old flame Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton) for assistance in defending her home. But as you’ll see from the trailer (and we’d add a spoiler alert here for good measure), it won’t be quite as simple as that, with Jane’s daughter Kate kidnapped by McCann and even Dan’s allegiance wavering after an offer of sharing the bounty for Bill’s capture.
Gavin O’Connor stepped up to direct the film, and Rodrigo Santoro, Boyd Holbrook and Alex Mantle are also part of the cast. Jane Got A Gun is out in France on November 25 and hits the US next February, but doesn’t appear to have a solid UK date yet.
