What is it about Natalie Portman and stoner comedies? Fresh from the David Gordon Green/Danny McBride period piece, Your Highness (clue’s in the title, folks), the 28 year-old actress is in negotiations to produce and star in Best Buds. And yes, the clue’s in the title there, too. Any more like this, and she might as well move to Amsterdam.
Portman will star as a woman who, on the eve of her wedding, decides to save herself from a massive nervous breakdown by driving to San Diego with her two best friends and a load of pot. So, as Jamie Redknapp might say, “she’s literally going on a road trip, Richard.”
The script was written by Jamie Denbo, while Portman will produce along with Vendome Pictures’ CEO, Philippe Rousselet, who’s also producing Duncan Jones’ Moon follow-up, Source Code. No director has yet been snagged, although given his propensity for ‘smoking a doobie’, as we believe the kids say these days, they could do a lot worse than give Kevin Smith a call once he’s done with his hockey comedy, Hit Somebody.
