Yesterday we told you that Michael Fassbender would be lusting after power as Macbeth in a new film planned by Snowtown’s Justin Kurzel. Now Natalie Portman has agreed to take on the role of the equally scheming Lady Macbeth{
Adapted this time for the screen by Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff, the latest Macbeth will be set, as originally written, in the 11th century and will boast proper Shakespearian dialogue. The action will be a little more visceral than is possible on stage, however, with big battle scenes. The film is set to begin shooting later this year.
Portman and Fassbender have already worked together on Terrence Malick’s latest, untitled film and were due to reunite on troubled Western Jane Got A Gun before Fassbender pulled out. So the new film will achieve both this aim and Portman’s long-held desire to play Lady M, which has seen her consider several stage productions.
As for the big screen, Portman will be seen in two Malick movies in the coming months, albeit with no confirmed UK release date for either the untitled film or Knight Of Cups. She’s more definitely back as Jane Foster for Thor: The Dark World, which invades our screens on November 1. Check out the trailer below.
