Actor-turned-director Brady Corbet has been looking to get Vox Lux, his follow-up to 2015's The Childhood Of A Leader made for a couple of years now. It's been through some typical indie film challenges, but appears ready to go ahead with Natalie Portman stepping in to replace previous lead Rooney Mara.

Also written by Corbet, Vox Lux follows a singer known as 'Celeste' who rises from the ashes of a national tragedy to become a pop superstar. The story will span 15 years and chronicles important events starting in 1999 through the singer's (Portman) eye. Jude Law will co-star, though his exact role is still under wraps. The soundtrack, meanwhile, will feature original songs by Sia, which should help give it an added boost.

Vox Lux has had scheduling and financial wobbles after producers Bold Films saw a previous effort, Stronger, fail at the box office. Now, having secured a financing partner and making some deals for other movies, it's in a better position and the cameras should roll on Corbet's latest next month.

Portman will next be seen in Alex Garland's sci-fi thriller Annihilation, out in the States on 23 February and hitting Netflix internationally on the same day.
