Natalie Portman May Be Jackie

There’s an intriguing new twist on the attempt to make a new film based on how former US first lady and fashion icon Jackie Kennedy dealt with her husband's assassination. The project is currently in the hands of Fox Searchlight and boasts a script by Noah Oppenheim, and has now been offered to Natalie Portman.

The intriguing part is because this was once being developed by Portman’s Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, who cast then-partner Rachel Weisz in the lead. But since they split, they’ve both dropped out of making the movie.

While there’s an argument to be made that Weisz fits the character a little more smoothly, Portman certainly has the chops to pull it off. Assuming, of course, that she decides to jump aboard.

And they’ll also need a director. While the ideal solution might be to tempt Aronofsky to consider coming back, Steven Spielberg also showed some interest back in 2010, though he’d be the longest of long shots and in any case is busy with Robopocalypse for the next couple of years.
