Natalie Portman is already in talks to star in Alex Garland’s planned next thriller, but it seems she’s also considering something very different. She’s circling the role of US Supreme Court Justice and legal icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg in **The Basis Of Sex{ =nofollow}.

Ginsburg is a compelling subject for a biopic, a woman who has spent her career championing women’s rights and smashes the glass ceiling more than once. She co-founded the first law journal on the subject of gender equality, became the first woman professor tenured at Columbia university. In 1993, Bill Clinton nominated her to the Supreme Court, making her the first female Jewish Justice.

Daniel Stiepleman wrote the script for the film, which tracks Ginsburg’s career and achievements, with Diary Of A Teenage Girl director Marielle Heller in talks to call the shots for Focus Features. There’s no sign yet when the movie might start shooting.

Portman, as mentioned, is circling Garland’s novel adaptation Annihilation. She’s been busy working on her directorial debut,** A Tale Of Love And Darkness**, which she’ll be bringing to Cannes to show to distributors. She’ll also be seen in Jane Got A Gun (September 4) and Terrence Malick’s Knight Of Cups, which has a reported UK release date on January 1, 2016.
