With the cameras already rolling on Divergent sequel Insurgent under the directorial eye of Robert Schwentke, a new name has joined the cast, with Naomi Watts now on board{ =nofollow}.

Watts, who will soon head to the Atlanta set to start work, has scored the role of Evelyn, leader of the Factionless. They’re the people in the future society who weren’t selected for any of the various factions, or who were dismissed from those they were sorted into originally. She is also, not for nothing, connected to one of the film's central characters in a way that we won't specify lest it's a spoiler, but you can read all about it here.

She joins returning veterans Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller in the film, which picks up the story as Tris (Woodley) fresh from trying to thwart a takeover of society by the Erudite faction lead by Winslet’s Jeanine, is on the run with Four (James), Peter (Teller) and Caleb (Elgort). And Watts isn’t just signed for one film: she’ll crop up in both of the films that Lionsgate/Summit is planning to make from Veronica Roth’s final book of the trilogy, Allegiant.

Octavia Spencer most recently joined the cast, playing Johanna, the new leader of the Amity Faction. With a script by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman, **Insurgent **is set to arrive here on March 20 next year.
