The adaptation of Jeanette Walls' memoir The Glass Castle already has Brie Larson and Woody Harrelson aboard to star. But the team making the film now has Naomi Watts in talks to join them.
Short Term 12's Destin Daniel Cretton is in the director's chair for this one, working from a script that has seen contributions from Marti Noxon and Andrew Lanham. It'll chronicle how Walls' parents, Rex and Rose Mary Walls, were free spirits who lead a nomadic existence. Her mother was more concerned with painting and writing than, say, making dinner for her four kids, while her father could be inspiring and educational, but only when sober. The parents crumbled as their money ran low, and Jeanette and her siblings ended up more-or-less raising themselves. Walls herself (Larson in the film) went on to be a successful woman whose life was impacted when Rex and Rose Mary moved to New York to be near her.
Harrelson is playing her father, and now Watts will be her mother. The actress is on screens now in The Divergent Series: Allegiant and will next show up Demolition opposite Jake Gyllenhaal. It'll be out here on April 29.
