Back in January, we reported the exciting news that Parasite director (and Oscar winner) Bong Joon Ho was finally starting to put his next film together, casting Robert Pattinson in a new sci-fi novel adaptation. Now we know that Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo will also be in the cast.
The novel in question is Mickey7, written by Edward Ashton and published this past February. It follows Mickey7, who is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous — even suicidal — the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal... and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.
With Bong, there's every chance the source material will simply inspire what ends up on screen, so don't expect to straightforward adaptation. And we don't yet know what roles Ackie, Collette and Ruffalo have snagged. Still... Some of the best actors around working with that director? We already want to see this one.
