While Marvel's TV series – on US broadcast network ABC – have struggled in comparison to the Netflix shows and the MCU, the company is keeping the fire of corporate synchronicity alive with a new, untitled series focused on female superheroes.
Allan Heinberg, one of the writers on last year's Wonder Woman is one of the driving forces behind the new series, which is being kept behind the usual Marvel security shield (or should that be security Hydra?) for now. But Deadline has heard that it'll focus on lesser-known characters, likely some sort of female superhero team.
A veteran of both TV (shows such as Grey's Anatomy, The OC and Gilmore Girls) and comics, Heinberg has a deal with ABC Studios and will write the pilot, executive producing alongside Marvel TV overlord Jeph Loeb. There's no word on when the new show might hit screens – assuming it gets past the pilot stage – but next year's fall schedule seems a likely slot. While it's encouraging to see more female characters on screens, we can't help but wonder if the channel couldn't just bring back Agent Carter...
And chances are whatever emerges might look less than impressive compares to Marvel Studios' early plans for limited series based on characters such as Scarlet Witch.
