You’d think playing one woman desperately seeking excitement (in the upcoming Great Gatsby) would sate Carey Mulligan, but it appears she’s still looking for more. The Drive actress is now in negotiations to star in Nancy And Danny.
Man On Wire director James Marsh is developing Brad Ingelsby’s script, which follows a small town girl who has her big-city dreams crushed. Aiming to win over her high school sweetheart, she charms a hapless bloke into acting as a pawn in a get-rich scheme that goes quickly and catastrophically wrong.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the eventual film will have shades of Gus Van Sant’s To Die For, which featured Nicole Kidman as a small town weather girl with big dreams and few ethics. Apparently the Nancy role was tasty enough to make Mulligan pursue the part.
There’s no word on when Marsh will kick off shooting. Mulligan was last seen in Shame and will next appear in the Coens’ Inside Llewyn Davis and the aforementioned Great Gatsby, which recently got moved back from a December release to next summer.
