As one of his past projects (Twin Peaks) comes back to life with a new series, there is more attention on director David Lynch's work. And one of his best movies, Mulholland Drive, will also return, in a specially restored 4K version overseen by the director himself. See the trailer below.
Mulholland Drive's story starts with a botched hit that results in the meeting of brunette amnesiac Rita (Laura Harring) and blonde would-be Hollywood actress Betty (Naomi Watts). Taking us on a memorable neo-noir trip through Hollywood’s dark underbelly, Lynch dispenses with a conventional narrative in favour of a hallucinogenic assault on the senses... In this case, with true verve and style.
The new version will premiere at Birmingham's Flatpack Film Festival, due to kick off on 4 April, before a cinema release via ICO on 14 April. You'll be able to buy a new special edition Blu-ray and DVD of the film from 22 May. Twin Peaks, meanwhile, is back on US screens via Showtime on 21 May, with a simulcast planned here early in the morning of 22 May on Sky Atlantic.
