MTV Makes Bid For The Big-Screen

A musical about incest? Surely not. But in fact, MTV are currently negotiating for the rights to The Breeders Box, a novel of dubious intent involving drugs, gay sex and incest between a sister and a brother. The MTV generation? Should it manage to acquire the moody drama, set in the downtown club world of early '90s New York City, it will most probably convert the book into a musical telefilm. The multimedia music monster plans to update the novel to present society in order to use a contemporary soundtrack. Written by Tim Murphy, the novel has so far only been published here in the UK and somewhat suggestively, Maggie Malina - head of MTV's recently formed TV movie division - features in the book's acknowledgements.
