The newer Disney Plus shows are following a familiar path in terms of their development – hiring directors and then announcing casting. As with She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel has now found its lead a short time after locking in filmmakers. Iman Vellani will play Kamala Khan in the series.

With writer Bisha K. Ali on board to run the show, the series will focus on Khan, Marvel's first Muslim hero, as she navigates life in New Jersey, juggling her family, her faith and her powers. which include body morphing abilities. First appearing in 2014, she's become a popular character and there's plenty of scope for her to crossover into the MCU's big screen output.

Vellani is a real newcomer to performing, though she was part of a teen committee at this year's Toronto International Film Festival Next Wave arm, selecting films that resonate with young people and those who aren't usually catered to by other fests. Her committee bio lists her as interested in cinematography, but playing a Marvel hero will certainly put her on the acting radar.
