You like Michael Sheen. We like Michael Sheen. He’s a top man, a great actor, and Wales’ finest export since Ivor The Engine. And now, after years of cheeky flirting and that Underworld trilogy nobody likes to talk about, it seems that Hollywood likes Michael Sheen too.
For the actor – who’s soon to shine on screen as the David Frost part of the equation in Ron Howard’s Frost/Nixon, followed by a turn as Brian Clough in The Damned United – has signed on to not one, but two, major American movies. And good on him.
The biggest would seem to be Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, although it’s not yet been announced which role he’ll play in that. But we think that he’d make a cracking Dormouse, and with that wide smile of his, the Cheshire Cat is not a bad shout. Either way, he’ll be joining Johnny Depp (as the Mad Hatter) when filming starts next year.
First up, though, Sheen has joined Gregor Jordan’s Unthinkable, a taut thriller about a black-ops agent and an FBI agent who must interrogate a terrorist who holds the key to stopping three nukes from going off on American soil.
Samuel L. Jackson and Carrie-Anne Moss had already signed onto the movie. Again, the specifics of Sheen’s role haven’t been announced. He could play the terrorist, of course, but we guess that he’ll be on the side of the angels in this one.
More as we get it on the film, which starts filming this month.
