Samantha Morton's not known for covering the same ground, so we were slightly taken aback at the first glimpse of the trailer for Michael Winterbottom's Code 46 which bears more than a passing resemblance to Morton's last sci-fi outing, Minority Report. Starring Tim Robbins, Code 46 is a tale set in 'the near future' in a society divided into those who have the correct papers and can therefore live in the city and those without who live in shantytowns in the desert. Robbins is a detective looking into ID fraud while Morton plays a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. It's a departure in genre too for Winterbottom who has teamed up once more with 24 Hour Party People writer Frank Cottrell Boyce to come up with this Brief Encounter tale that he claims shouldn't be viewed as science fiction, but a world set 'in a parallel universe'. Anyhow, without further ado - here's the trailer, so you can see for yourself whether Winterbottom's efforts have been successful. Click here to view.
